Role Description

Assess risk to ensure alignment with the underwriting guidelines, appetite and state regulations
Review and analyze new business submissions, inspections and accompanying documentation to assess acceptability
Execute and actively engage in renewal underwriting projects and initiatives
Handle complex underwriting assesments such as large losses and risk reports
Maintain accurate and current underwriting files and records
Engage with agents and clients to collect additional information as necessary; develop and manage agent and direct client relationships
Develop and maintaing positive relationships with agents
Negotiate terms with agents and direct clients
Participate in phone loops to assist agents, direct clients, and the customer service department

Guidelines for Promotion into this Role

Strong product knowledge and navigation of underwriting guidelines, company's risk appetite and procedures including technical proficiency.
Works with a high level of independence and proficiency in negotiation and handling difficult conversations.
Exceeds management's performance expectations.
High level of proficiency with all internal applications.
Incorporating underwriting principles and techniques with an advanced level of expertise. Consistently meeting expectations on QA Audits. Manage and service a book of business up to $20m.
Works well with supervision. May be called upon to perform additional duties. Supports departmental and corporate initiatives.
Maintain and model positive attitude with all interactions, including strong relationships with peers and agents.
