Role Overview

Role Description

This role concentrates on leading, mentoring, and coaching underwriting direct reports, focusing on developing their underwriting skills and cultivating future leaders. A key function is supporting company initiatives (IT and Strategic) and interpreting policyholder and agency analytics. The Supervisor must work collaboratively across the organization, executing and creating processes to identify and address Rate Evasion, identify potential areas of risk, and partner internally with Claims, Sales, Product, and Customer Service. At all times, you must represent the brand, deliver Six Sigma results, and maintain the highest level of customer experience.

  • Underwriting Mastery: Excellent underwriting acumen in auto and umbrella policies and procedures for all states within our footprint. 

  • Approval Authority: Ability to review and approve high-limit umbrella applications (e.g., $3-4 million). 

  • Leadership & Influence: Demonstrated ability to communicate across the organization, influence change, and advocate for our staff and customers. 

  • Talent Development: Ability to coach and engage in difficult conversations to drive team growth. 

  • Data-Driven Decisions: Ability to interpret complex data and make decisions based on analytics. 

  • Strategic Execution: Act as project lead for IT initiatives including creation of requirements, User Acceptance Testing, and leading UW Initiative teams. 

KPIs

Performance is measured by operational results, strategic goal achievement, and people development: 

  • Operational & Compliance: Achieve and maintain Underwriting Service level standards and Regulatory Compliance. 

  • Strategic Impact: Achieve and complete annual strategic goals and success in Rate Pursuit premium collection. 

  • People Development: Measured Advancement of bench-strength within the Underwriting Group.

Learning and Development

Required training and certifications:

  • P&C License (Active) 

  • Bachelor's Degree 

 

Advanced professional designations such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) and Six Sigma certification are highly valued for strategic and process leadership.
